Crocker, Horsfield share medalist honors at U.S. Junior Amateur

The Woodlands, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Sean Crocker fired a 6-under 66 on Tuesday to earn a share of the medalist honors at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

Crocker finished the stroke-play portion of the competition at 7-under-par 137. He was joined there by Sam Horsfield, who carded a 3-under 69 during his second round on the Nicklaus Course at The Club at Carlton Woods.

The pair of 17-year-olds are each playing in their final U.S. Junior Amateur.

First-round leader Davis Riley shot a 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for third place with Will Grimmer (67) and Dominic Foos (68) at 6-under 138, while Braden Thornberry (71), Ryan Ruffels (68) and William Zalatoris (69) shared sixth at minus-4.

Justin Conant, Josh McCarthy, Priyanshu Singh, Dylan McCabe and David Laskin claimed their spots in match play through a 9-for-5 playoff after they all finished at 5-over 149.

Crocker opened his round with a birdie at the 10th. After trading a bogey at the 12th with a birdie at the 13th, he followed three straight birdies from the 15th with an eagle at the 18th to make the turn at 7-under.

His outward 30 tied the 9-hole scoring record for the championship.

Crocker countered a birdie at the fourth with a bogey at the fifth around seven pars during his inward nine to finish at minus-7.

Horsfield parred his first two holes before rolling in back-to-back birdies at the third and fourth. He later added a birdie at the eighth to reach 7-under.

A pair of birdies at the 13th and 14th would move him to 9-under, but he quickly gave those shots back with a double-bogey at the 15th and parred his final three holes to end alongside Crocker.

The match play portion of the championship starts on Wednesday and runs through the 36-hole final on Saturday.

Crocker will face McCabe in his first match, while Horsfield will face off against Laskin.
