Jo tops Seong to win Women's Publinx

DuPont, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Fumie Jo defeated stroke-play winner and 14-year-old Eun Jeong Seong 3 & 2 in 36 holes on Saturday to capture the final U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.

Jo, a 15-year-old, finished 10 shots back of Seong in the stroke-play portion of the championship, but Jo made her presence known on Saturday at The Home Course.

Jo never trailed throughout the day and the duo was only all square for three out of the 36 holes.

After both Jo and Seong traded pars on the first two holes, Jo made birdie at No. 3 to take a 1-up lead. That quickly became a 2-up lead when Seong made bogey at the par-3 fourth. Jo managed to make par.

Seong responded with wins at Nos. 5 and 6 to square things up for the last time. Jo came right back with a birdie at seven and a par at the par-5 eighth to get back to 2-up.

Jo and Seong traded pars on the next two holes before Jo birdied No. 11 to take a 3-up lead. Seong countered with a win at No. 12, but Jo went on to win the par-3 14th with a birdie. Seong completed the first 18 holes with a win at No. 18, cutting Jo's lead to two heading into the break.

While Seong made bogey on the 20th hole, Jo poured in a birdie to take a 3-up lead yet again. Seong got that hole back with a win on the 22nd hole, but Jo came right back with a birdie at No. 23.

Seong tapped in for par, while Jo three-putted at the 24th and Seong had the lead trimmed back to two. Another three-putt doomed Jo on the 25th hole and Seong two-putted for par. All of a sudden Jo's lead was just one.

That's as close as Seong would get, however. The duo traded pars on the next two before Jo birdied 28 to get back to 2-up. Jo went on to win No. 30, Seong picked up a win at 31 and Jo made birdie at 32 to get 3-up.

Jo and Seong halved the next two holes and the title was Jo's.
