Seong moves on, Diaz-Yi out at Women's Publinx

DuPont, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stroke-play medalist and 14-year-old Eun Jeong Seong advanced through the second and third rounds of match play and moved on to the quarterfinals, while defending champion Lauren Diaz-Yi was ousted in the third round at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship on Thursday.

Seong, who set a stroke-play record earlier in the week, defeated Grace Na 4 & 3 in the second round before moving on to face Eimi Koga in the third round.

Koga gave Seong a scare, holding a 2-up lead through seven holes, but Seong rallied and evened things up through 10. Seong went on to win holes 11 and 12 before clinching the 3 & 1 victory with a win at No. 17.

Diaz-Yi barely got through her second-round match against Harley Dubsky. Diaz- Yi took a 1-up lead at the 12th hole, and she was able to match Dubsky the rest of the way and won 1-up.

However, Doris Chen was waiting in the third round and she quickly took control, winning four of the first nine holes. Chen also won holes 10 and 11 to take a 6-up lead. Diaz-Yi birdied 12 to get back to 5-down, but Chen made birdie at No. 14 to clinch the 6 & 4 win, securing her spot in the quarterfinals.

Also moving on to the quarterfinals were Gabriella Then, Alana Uriell, Sirene Blair, Cindy Ha, Dominique Galloway and Fumi Jo.

Uriell made par on No. 17, while her opponent Robynn Ree made bogey to give Uriell a one-hole lead heading to 18. The two made par at the last and Uriell had a thrilling victory.

Match play lasts through Saturday's 36-hole final.
