GAME NOTES: The George Mason Patriots will play host to the Blue Hens of Delaware Saturday afternoon in a Colonial Athletic Association clash at the Patriot Center.
After a 85-65 blowout loss for the Blue Hens at Towson which ended a three- game win streak, Delaware looks to split its two-game road trip and earn a victory before heading back home to face Old Dominion. Delaware is now just 11-12 on the year, but boasts of a solid 6-4 mark in conference play.
George Mason most recently took a 85-74 win over Old Dominion which was apparently the last straw for ODU, leading to the firing of its head coach. It completed a 2-0 road swing for the Patriots who will stop home for one game before heading north to try to get revenge against a Drexel team that beat them just over a week ago.
The Patriots lead the all-time series 20-8 and have won the last 10 meetings at the Patriot Center. Delaware has lost five of the last six matchups in the series but took the last game 65-60 last February in Newark.
Against the Tigers, Devon Saddler led the Blue Hens with 20 points, going a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line despite going just 4-of-20 from the field. Jamelle Hagins added 14 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort for Delaware. Saddler has been the key source off offense this season for UD playing nearly 37 minutes a game and scoring 19.3 ppg while Hagins is averaging a double-double with 12.5 ppg and 10.6 rpg and shooting 53.6 percent from the field. Jarvis Threatt also averages in double-figure scoring with 11.9 ppg, but shoots just 35.5 percent from the floor. After going 5-8 before conference play, the Blue Hens have seemingly turned it around a bit and carried a winning record since at 6-4.
Jonathan Arledge posted 21 points and seven rebounds against ODU while shooting 6-of-11 from the field and 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Patrick Holloway scored 13 points and Corey Edwards added 11 while Erik Copes and Bryon Allen managed 10 each with Allen dishing out eight assists. Wright is the only Patriot start all 23 games this season and is the only one averaging in double-figures on the season with 17.7 ppg, while shooting an efficient 48.1 percent from the field. He is also the only George Mason player averaging over 30 minutes a game at 32.6. Overall the squad plays decent offense but excels on the defensive end holding opponents to 62.9 ppg and 40.0 percent shooting from the floor.
After scoring just nine points in the last game, Wright will look to come back with an explosive performance and put up big numbers against Delaware. With the Patriots having such a strong reputation against the Blue Hens at home and currently getting into an offensive groove, George Mason should get a win streak started and earn its third win in a row.
Sports Network Projected Outcome: George Mason 73, Delaware 65
