GAMES NOTES: Coming off a big win over No. 19 Oregon, the Colorado Buffaloes will continue their run up the Pac-12 standings when they visit the Oregon State Beavers at Gill Coliseum on Sunday.

Colorado did what no team had been able to do in the previous 20 attempts at Matthew Knight Arena as it got past Oregon, 48-47, in Eugene on Thursday night. The win was the fourth in the last five games for Colorado which is 15-7 overall with an even 5-5 mark against fellow Pac-12 squads. Colorado, which is 3-6 on the road, will be back in Boulder to host No. 7 Arizona next.

The promising start the Beavers had to the season has been completely forgotten as they have lost three straight games and eight of their last 10 since conference play began. Oregon State is still a game above .500 overall (12-11) but at 2-8 in league play, finds itself just ahead of Washington State and Utah, who reside in the conference basement. The Beavers did improve their record last time out with a dominating 82-64 win at Gill Coliseum where they are 9-5 on the season. A trip to the Evergreen State is next on the docket with dates against Washington State and Washington.

A year ago these teams split the season series when they met as league foes for the first time. Colorado owns a 7-3 advantage in the all-time series.

The Buffaloes found themselves trailing, 47-40 with a little more than four minutes remaining against Oregon. Colorado then scored the final eight points of the game, while forcing three turnovers and three missed shots from Oregon in the final minutes.

Double-double machine Andre Roberson was at it again against Oregon as he put in 13 points to go with 10 rebounds. The 6-foot-7 forward (10.7 ppg, 11.7 rpg) not only leads the Pac-12 in rebounding but is also the only player in the conference to be averaging a double-double for the season. Three other players are also scoring in double figures for Colorado led by Spencer Dinwiddie (14.4 ppg). Askia Booker (13.8 ppg) and Josh Scott (12.0 ppg) add additional scoring punch though only one other player on the roster scores more than 4.5 per game. Colorado has shot a solid 45.6 percent from the floor as a team, while managing just under 70 points per game. On defense the Buffaloes hold teams to 64.2 points per game on 39.5 percent shooting.

Joe Burton put on a passing clinic from the paint to lead Oregon State over Utah. The 6-foot-7 center handed out 10 assists and scored 17 points while Roberto Nelson netted a game-high 26 points in the win. The Beavers shot 45.6 percent from the floor in the contest and assisted on 17 of their 26 field goals.

Having Nelson put up big numbers isn't anything new. The junior guard (17.0 ppg) is the top scoring option on the roster for Oregon State and has scored in double figures in eight straight games, including 20-point efforts in each of the last three. Devon Collier (13.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg), Burton (11.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg) and Eric Moreland (9.7 ppg, 10.7 rpg) compose what has been a productive frontcourt trio for the Beavers while Ahmad Starks (11.9 ppg) is a dangerous shooter from beyond the arc as well as one of the teams primary ball handlers. The offensive end of the floor has not provided many challenges for Oregon State this season as it is third in the conference in both scoring (74.3 ppg) and shooting (.457 FG percentage) as well as second in assists (15.6 pg). On defense the Beavers are allowing teams to score just a shade under 70 points per game.

Though they have not been able to compile a ton of wins in league play, Oregon State is still a tough out. Expect the Buffaloes to need another big effort on the road to get past the Beavers.
