=== Minor league umpires reject 12 percent raise ===

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - The umpires for Minor League Baseball,
on strike since the beginning of the season on April 6, rejected a tentative
 agreement on a six-year contract.

Representatives of Minor League Baseball and the Association of Minor League
Umpires (AMLU) reached the deal last Friday, but announced three days later
the rejection of the pact, which had been hammered out with the help of
 federal mediator Lou Manchise.

The Professional Baseball Umpire Corporation (PBUC), which employs the
umpires, said it was upset the striking umpires chose to reject the contract
despite the unanimous recommendation of the AMLU bargaining committee.

Minor League Baseball will continue using replacement umpires and no further
 negotiations are scheduled.

The rejected agreement would have seen a raise of about 12 percent this year.
