                 === South Carolina shuts down Oregon State ===
 
 Seattle,  WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Aleighsa Welch notched a double-double with
 21 points and 11 rebounds as the top-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks edged out
 the  ninth-seeded  Oregon State Beavers,  78-69, in an NCAA Tournament second-
 round clash at Alaska Airlines Arena.
 
 Tiffany  Mitchell  also tallied  a  double-double  for the  Gamecocks  (29-4),
 netting 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds. South Carolina will advance to
 the Sweet 16 to face fourth-seeded North Carolina on Sunday. Khadijah Sessions
 chipped in 13 points in the win.
 
 Jamie Weisner scored 21 points, hitting 5-of-9 from 3-point range, and grabbed
 seven  rebounds for  Oregon  State (24-11).  Gabriella  Hanson contributed  16
 points  in the  losing effort,  and Ali  Gibson recorded  11 points  with nine
 rebounds and five assists.
 
 South  Carolina  made just 33.3  percent of its field  goal tries in the first
 half  of Tuesday's  action, but connected on 13-of-16 from the free-throw line
 to  help the  team take a 34-25  lead into the intermission. Oregon State also
 made  33.3 percent of its shot attempts in the frame, but only hit 2-of-6 from
 the charity stripe.
 
 The Gamecocks were content with the lead, and paced the Beavers throughout the
 second half. South Carolina buried 41.7 percent of its shots from the floor in
 the  period, and  made 21-of-27  at the  foul line.  Oregon State  netted 42.1
 percent  of its  shots, but  couldn't  make up  any ground  on the  Gamecocks'
 advantage.
 
 South  Carolina  had the advantage in  points off turnovers, 19-6, and crushed
 Oregon  State from the  free-throw line, 34-9. The Beavers made up for it with
 an impressive advantage in bench scoring in the contest, 43-10.
