=== Duke beats North Carolina to deny Hatchell 900th career win ===
Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - North Carolina head coach Sylvia Hatchell
will have to wait until Thursday to try and earn her 900th career win.
Fifth-ranked Duke handled 11th-ranked North Carolina in an 84-63 win on Sunday
at Carmichael Arena.
Chloe Wells registered a career-high 18 points and three steals, Haley Peters
scored 14 points, and Elizabeth Williams recorded a double-double with 13
points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils (20-1, 10-0 ACC), who have won four
straight.
Tierra Ruffin-Pratt had 18 points, six assists and five steals, but also had 11
turnovers for North Carolina (20-3, 8-2), which was coming off a win against
Florida State on Thursday. Waltiea Rolle added 17 points and eight rebounds.
Hatchell, who has coached for the Tar Heels since 1986, was attempting to
become just the third coach in women's basketball history to reach 900
career wins, along with Pat Summitt and Jody Conradt.
Duke led the entire game and pulled away early, scoring 50 points in the first
half on 55.9 percent shooting, including 7-for-9 from three-point range. North
Carolina managed to score just 19 points and shot 21.9 percent from the field
Brittany Rountree's layup with 12:36 remaining in the second half cut the
deficit to 60-42, but that was the closest the Tar Heels could reach.
