=== Michigan hires Barnes Arico to lead women's program ===
Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - St. John's women's basketball coach Kim
Barnes Arico has been hired as Kevin Borseth's successor at Michigan,
announced director of athletics Dave Brandon on Friday.
Barnes Arico, who spent the last 10 years with the Red Storm, guided them
to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school
history this past season.
"I am excited and honored to represent the University of Michigan as its new
head women's basketball coach," said Barnes Arico. "The University of Michigan
is world renowned for its academic and athletic excellence and our program
will continue to stress the Universities foundational values of being a true
student-athlete - excellence in the classroom, excellence on the court and
involvement in the community," Barnes Arico said.
Barnes Arico takes over for Borseth, who left the institution to go back to
Wisconsin-Green Bay this past month. The Wolverines went 20-12 this season,
which ended in an NCAA tournament loss -- Michigan's first trip to the NCAA
Tournament since 2001 -- to Oklahoma.
