Stoke secures Sidwell's signature

Stoke-on-Trent, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Stoke City has come to terms on a two-year contract with midfielder Steve Sidwell.

The 31-year-old Sidwell was released by Fulham at the end of this past season after the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League, but the veteran will be joining his fifth different top-flight side on July 1 when his contract at Fulham officially runs out.

In addition to Fulham, Sidwell has also enjoyed spells at Reading, Chelsea and Aston Villa, and he is coming off a season in which he led the Cottagers with eight goals in all competitions while starting 36 of the team's 38 games in league play.

Sidwell becomes the second new arrival at Stoke this offseason joining defender Phil Bardsley, who arrived from Sunderland last month.
