Lambert completes Liverpool switch

Liverpool, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Liverpool have completed the signing of England international forward Rickie Lambert, the Merseyside club confirmed on Monday.

Lambert, 32, arrives at Anfield from Southampton on a new two-year contract for a transfer fee believed to be around four million pounds.

Lambert bagged 117 goals for the Saints over 235 appearances, but was delighted to return to the club he supported as a youth.

"I can't believe it. I've loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago - and I haven't stopped loving it since," Lambert told the club's official website. "I know how big Liverpool are, and it means everything to me, but I know what is important; I know it's what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that's what matters, and that's what I'll be focused on."

Lambert was born in Kirkby, a suburb of Liverpool, and spent five years in the Reds' youth team before being released in 1997 and joining Blackpool a year later.

He netted 13 goals last season for Southampton and will give Brendan Rodgers club some much-needed depth behind Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge with Champions League on the schedule for the upcoming season.
