Eger leads suspended Desert Dunes Classic

Desert Hot Springs, CA (Sports Network) - Kent Eger posted his second consecutive three-under 69 on Friday to take the lead during the suspended second round of the Desert Dunes Classic.

Eger finished 36 holes at six-under 138 and is one stroke clear at Desert Dunes Golf Club.

Matt Richardson (71), Byron Smith (68), Matt Daniel (72) and first-round leader Stuart Anderson (75) share second place at minus-five.

The second round was suspended due to darkness. The remaining players will return at 11:00 a.m. (et) Saturday morning to complete the second round. After the cut is made, the third round will begin.

Eger started well with a birdie at one, then added front-nine birdies at the third and seventh holes to make the turn at six-under par. He reached seven- under with a birdie at No. 11, but dropped a stroke with a bogey at the par- four 12th.

Eger atoned for the error at 12 with a birdie at the par-five 13th. He got to eight-under par with a birdie at the par-five 16th, his second in as many days at Desert Dunes.

Alone in the lead, Eger found trouble on the way to the clubhouse. He bogeyed his final two holes, but it was still enough to take the lead at the midway point.

"I played really well again today," stated Eger. "Tee to green I was very solid and if I can just get my putter going it's all going to come together for me."

Defending champion Adam Hadwin shot a four-under 68 and vaulted into a tie for sixth with Matt Marshall (69), Kevin Tucker (70) and Brad Fritsch (70) at four-under 140.

NOTES: Eger owns two wins on the Canadian Tour, both at the Seaforth Country Classic (2008 and '10)...Conditions in the afternoon were miserable with wind and rain...The 36-hole cut is expected to be four-over par...This is the final event on the Canadian Tour schedule.
