EIU sets schedule for Spoo's final season
Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - A season of anniversaries for Eastern Illinois and head coach Bob Spoo will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 1 against rival Illinois State.
This will be Spoo's 25th and final year at EIU. It also will mark the 50th season that Spoo has been as a coach dating to his high school coaching days in Chicago.
The opening game against Illinois State will be the 100th of the long-time series. It will be one of five home games at O'Brien Field.
The others are within the Ohio Valley Conference against Tennessee Tech (Sept. 17), Eastern Kentucky (Oct. 8), UT Martin on Homecoming Day (Oct. 22) and Tennessee State (Nov. 5).
Among key road games, EIU will play at Big Ten member Northwestern on Sept. 10. Also, Spoo's final regular-season game will occur on Nov. 12 at Southern Illinois of the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
The Panthers made the 2009 FCS playoffs, but finished a disappointing 2-9 last season.
