Six transfers join Southern Illinois program

Carbondale, IL (Sports Network) - Six midyear transfers, including four from the Football Bowl Subdivision, have joined Southern Illinois' program for the spring semester, head football coach Dale Lennon announced Tuesday.

Three of the four FBS transfers are from BCS conferences: offensive lineman Tucker Blanton from Florida, tight end De'Ron Flood from Purdue and wide receiver Kevan Walker from Oregon State. In addition, quarterback A.J. Hill, from Northern Illinois, is a local product of nearby Du Quoin and the younger brother of former Salukis quarterback Nick Hill, their third-leading passer of all-time.

Two other players were junior college teammates at Coffeyville Community College: linebacker Bryan Presume and running back Mulku Kalokoh.

Walker redshirted in 2008 at Oregon State and has two years of remaining eligibility. The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Pasadena, Calif., is the son of New Mexico State head coach DeWayne Walker.

Blanton and Flood redshirted at Florida and Purdue, respectively, in 2010 and will have four years of eligibility with the Salukis.

Hill redshirted at Northern Illinois in 2009 and has three years of remaining eligibility.

SIU has a history of successful transfers from Coffeyville. Kalokoh and Presume are the Salukis' first transfers from Coffeyville since linebacker Fred Wright, who graduated from SIU in 2009.
