Eastern Illinois RB Williams sidelined
Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - Eastern Illinois starting tailback Mon Williams will miss the team's season opener at Iowa because of a knee injury suffered in preseason camp.
Williams will miss 2-3 weeks because of a sprained cruciate ligament suffered during a practice on Aug. 18, the school announced. Williams rushed for 870 yards and nine touchdowns last year in his first season after transferring to EIU from the University of Florida.
EIU also announced it has added transfer running back Jake Walker from the University of Toledo. He is a redshirt sophomore who was listed as the No. 3 running back on the Rockets' depth chart prior to making the transfer.
Walker will be eligible to compete for Panthers in the Sept. 4 game against Iowa.
