Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Malcolm Brown rushed for 119 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to lead the Texas Longhorns past the Kansas Jayhawks, 35-13, in Big 12 Conference action at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Case McCoy completed 20-of-29 passes for 196 yards and two interceptions for Texas (6-2, 5-0 Big 12), which became bowl eligible with the victory. Jaxon Shipley hauled in six passes for 77 yards, while Daje Johnson (seven receptions, 46 yards) also had an active afternoon out wide.
For Kansas (2-6, 0-5), Jake Heaps finished 11-of-21 for 160 yards with most of his production going to Rodriguez Coleman (two receptions, 85 yards). James Sims racked up 99 total yards (51 receiving, 48 rushing), and Montell Cozart (four carries, 34 yards) had the team's only touchdown.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Longhorns struck first early in the second by capping off a 15-play, 92-yard drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown by Brown. Brown added another rushing score with 2:31 left in the half, this time from three yards out.
The Jayhawks got on the board just before intermission, as Ron Doherty chipped in a 21-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
Kansas received the second-half kickoff and made its deficit just one score at the 12:48 mark of the third quarter following a 27-yard field goal by Doherty.
The Longhorns' defense got into the scoring act with 6:25 left in the third quarter. Cedric Reed sacked Heaps and forced a fumble, which was picked up by Chris Whaley and returned 40 yards for a touchdown to give Texas a 21-6 advantage.
Brown's big day continued with two more rushing touchdowns late in the game. He converted another short score with 45 seconds left in the third quarter, plunging in from one yard out, then he ripped off a 30-yard scoring rush with just over nine minutes left in the game.
The Jayhawks added a late touchdown when Cozart rushed in a 20-yard score with 3:39 left.
Texas converted 9-of-17 third-down attempts while holding Kansas to just 4- of-14.
