NCAA Game Summary - Colorado vs. Colorado State

(Sunday, September 1st)

Final Score: Colorado 41, Colorado State 27

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Last year, Colorado's Paul Richardson just wanted the opportunity to lace up his cleats against his in-state rival.

This season, he helped the Buffaloes take back bragging rights in the Rocky Mountain Showdown.

Richardson, who missed the entire 2012 campaign after tearing his ACL during a spring practice, tallied 208 yards receiving on 10 catches to go with two touchdowns in Colorado's 41-27 triumph over Colorado State.

Connor Wood completed 33-of-46 passes for 400 yards and three scores for the Buffaloes (1-0), who matched last year's win total (1-11) in Mike MacIntyre's debut as head coach. He had been with San Jose State the previous three seasons.

Kapri Bibbs had 70 yards and two scores on 15 carries for Colorado State (0-1), which won last year's meeting against Colorado.

The Rams trailed by as many as 14 in the second quarter, but Bibbs' 2-yard TD run late in the third gave CSU a 24-23 edge.

Colorado, though, outscored the Rams 18-3 in the fourth.

A 52-yard field goal by Will Oliver preceded Greg Henderson's 53-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, which gave the Buffaloes a 33-24 cushion. CSU's Jared Roberts drilled a 30-yard field goal to make it a one-possession game, but Wood's 75-yard TD pass to Richardson with less than four minutes left sealed the outcome. The two-point conversion was successful to make it 41-27.

Earlier, Wood's 82-yard TD strike to Richardson and Oliver's 22-yard field goal staked CU to a quick 10-0 spread before Robert's 39-yard field goal got the Rams on the board in the second.

Wood's 18-yard touchdown pass to D.D. Goodson gave CU its two-touchdown cushion, but CSU answered with a Bibbs 7-yard TD sprint for a 17-10 score. Oliver then booted through a 41-yard field goal to make it 20-10 at the break.

Joe Hansley's 74-yard punt return for a score cut the deficit to 20-17 before Oliver's 44-yard field goal made it 23-17 in favor of Colorado.
