Final Score: Texas Tech 58, Texas State 10

San Marcos, TX (Sports Network) - Seth Doege tossed five touchdown passes as the Texas Tech Red Raiders rolled over the Texas State Bobcats, 58-10, in non- conference action at Bobcat Stadium.

Doege completed 25-of-32 passes for 319 yards for Texas Tech (2-0). Twelve different Red Raiders caught a pass in the game, paced by Javon Bell (81 yards), Jakeem Grant (78 yards), and Darrin Moore (73 yards), who all caught five balls.

For Texas State (1-1), Tyler Arndt went 12-of-22 for 130 yards while tossing a touchdown and an interception. Arndt spelled Shaun Rutherford, who started the game and completed just 1-of-9 passes. Terrence Franks (two receptions, 38 yards) caught the lone touchdown for the Bobcats.

It was the Texas Tech defense that struck first when Cody Davis returned a Rutherford interception 88 yards for a touchdown to give the Red Raiders a 7-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.

The Red Raiders added to their advantage less than a minute later on a 23-yard touchdown strike from Doege to Moore. Doege connected with Moore again later in the first quarter on a four-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-0.

The lead ballooned to 28-0 early in the second quarter following an Alex Torres 23-yard touchdown catch.

Texas State finally ended the Red Raider run at the 10:54 mark of the second quarter when Arndt teamed up with Franks on a 25-yard touchdown strike.

Texas Tech brought its lead back to 28 points less than two minutes later after another touchdown pass from Doege, this time a 19-yarder to Jace Amaro.

Will Johnson kicked a 38-yard field goal for Texas State with under four minutes left in the second quarter, then Ryan Bustin responded with a 38- yarder of his own in the waning seconds of the half to give Texas Tech a 38-10 lead heading into intermission.

The Doege touchdown passes kept coming after the half as the signal-caller hooked up with Bell on an eight-yard strike early in the third quarter.

Kenny Williams got the ground game involved in the scoring for the Red Raiders midway through the period when he ripped off a 16-yard touchdown run. Bustin added a 50-yard field goal a few minutes later to make it 55-10.

A 21-yard field goal from Andrew Bowman midway through the fourth quarter further extended Texas Tech's lead.

Texas Tech converted on 7-of-11 third downs and went the entire game without a punt.

The loss for the Bobcats came after they won their first-ever game as a member of the FBS last week, upsetting reigning Conference USA champion Houston, 30-13.
