Eugene, OR (Sports Network) - Marcus Mariota threw for 260 yards and two
touchdowns as No. 3 Oregon rolled over No. 22 Arizona, 49-0, on Saturday.
Mariota completed 20-of-35 passes with an interception, while Bralon Addison
added a 55-yard touchdown catch for Oregon (4-0, 1-0 Pac-12).
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and Troy Hill each returned an interception for a touchdown in
the victory.
Matt Scott went 22-for-44 through the air for 210 yards and three
interceptions for the previously undefeated Wildcats (3-1, 0-1), who went 0-
for-5 in red-zone opportunities.
"When we're down there, to beat a team like Oregon, you got to finish off
those drives. We had a lot of opportunities, especially early," Arizona head
coach Rich Rodriguez said.
Ka'Deem Carey had 79 yards on 21 carries and 37 yards on four receptions in
the loss.
Arizona drove all the way down to the Oregon 4-yard line on their first
possession of the game after the Ducks were held to a three-and-out, but Kyle
Dugandzic fumbled and Oregon's Jennings Stewart recovered the ball to end the
threat.
The Wildcats were able to quickly get the ball back as a Mariota fumble was
recovered by Arizona's Reggie Gilbert three plays later, but Ekpre-Olomu
intercepted a Scott pass at the 12-yard line.
Oregon was able to capitalize on the turnover this time with a 10-play, 88-
yard drive capped by Daryle Hawkins' 17-yard touchdown reception with 5:42
left in the first quarter.
Scott converted a 3rd-and-10 with a 12-yard strike to David Richards as part
of a 13-play drive on the Wildcats' next touch, but Arizona opted to go for a
4th-and-goal at the Oregon 2-yard line and Scott was taken down for a loss.
Another Oregon turnover gave the Wildcats back the ball as De'Anthony Thomas'
fumble on the first play of the second quarter was recovered by Jared Tevis at
the Ducks' 34.
Arizona, though, would fail to get on the board despite the favorable field
position after John Bonano's 31-yard field goal attempt was blocked.
Oregon added to its lead later in the second off another Arizona turnover as a
Johnny Jackson fumble was recovered by Taylor Hart and Rob Beard capped a 17-
play, 62-yard drive with a 27-yard field goal.
"The defense came out ready to get the ball back for us," Thomas said.
Beard's 41-yard kick within the final minute of the second quarter gave the
Ducks a 13-0 lead at the break.
The teams traded punts through the majority of the third quarter until a 38-
yard punt return by Thomas gave Oregon the ball at the Arizona 37-yard line.
Mariota found Colt Lyerla for a 35-yard gain down the left sideline on the
first play of the drive and two plays later, Lyerla rumbled into the end zone
from one yard out, giving the Ducks a 21-0 lead following a two-point
conversion.
After Arizona was forced to punt again, Jonathan McKnight intercepted a
Mariota pass and returned it 23 yards to give the Wildcats the ball at the
Oregon 35.
But Kiko Alonso stepped in front of a Scott pass on a 4th-and-12 at the Ducks'
20 to keep Arizona off the board.
Mariota then found Addison for a 55-yard touchdown to put Oregon on top, 28-0,
entering the fourth quarter, where Ekpre-Olomu's 54-yard interception return
for a score, Bryan Bennett's 8-yard TD run and Hill's 29-yard pick-six capped
the scoring.
