Fresno's DeRuyter lands $7.5 million deal

Fresno, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Fresno State and football coach Tim DeRuyter have agreed on a five-year contract extension worth $7.5 million, the school announced Monday.

The deal averages $1.5 million per year plus performance-based bonuses the school anticipates will be between $500,000 and $700,000 each season.

DeRuyter, 51, has a 20-6 record in two seasons coaching the Bulldogs, leading them to bowl games both seasons.

They were 11-2 this past season and beat Utah State in the inaugural Mountain West Championship game.

Fresno State athletic director Thomas Boeh said DeRuyter's "extraordinary success" warranted the contract extension, which will be finalized in the coming months.

DeRuyter, who was hired in December of 2011, said it's gratifying to know the school "is pleased with the direction that the football program is headed and wants to show its commitment to our future."
