LSU QB Mettenberger to miss bowl game
Baton Rouge, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - LSU senior quarterback Zach Mettenberger will miss the Tigers' bowl game after suffering a knee injury that is believed to be a torn ACL and sprained MCL.
He was hurt in Friday's 31-27 victory over Arkansas.
Mettenberger left the field on crutches after having his leg pinned under a pass-rushing defender.
The specifics of Mettenberger's knee injury will not be disclosed by the school.
"We are very disappointed for Zach," LSU head coach Les Miles said on Wednesday. "He's been a tremendous leader for our team and he's as competitive a guy as I have ever been around. He's had a great impact on our program.
"I know Zach will work extremely hard to rehabilitate his knee and I don't anticipate this injury having any impact on what should be a great future in the NFL."
Mettenberger threw for 3,082 yards with 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season.
Backup quarterback Anthony Jennings will be the starter for the team's bowl appearance.
