Oklahoma, UCLA to play series in 2018 and '19
Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Oklahoma football announced Wednesday that the Sooners and UCLA Bruins will square off against each other in a home-and- home series.
The two-game set will take place in 2018-19, with the Sooners hosting the Bruins in Norman to start and UCLA welcoming Oklahoma to Pasadena to finish.
"We're delighted to again add UCLA's tradition-rich program to our schedule," said Oklahoma vice president and director of athletics, Joe Castiglione. "Together, we can showcase two great schools in the kind of intersectional matchup that is so good for college sports. And now our longstanding philosophy of scheduling marquee non-conference opponents becomes even more important with the College Football Playoff beginning in 2014."
These storied programs have squared off only four times previously. UCLA came up with a 41-24 decision over Oklahoma on Sept. 17, 2005 in southern California. However, the Sooners had won the three prior matchups, in 1986, 1990 and 2003.
"Now more than ever, it's important for UCLA to face marquee non-conference opponents," said UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero. "With Oklahoma Football recognized nationally and the new playoff system beginning next season, this is a great matchup for not only our team, but for our fans as well."
