Texas G Ward lost for season
Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Texas Longhorns sophomore guard Varez Ward suffered a right quadriceps injury during pregame warmups against Pittsburgh on Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season.
Ward, who is expected to undergo surgery early next week, had started the first three games of the season for the third-ranked Longhorns, averaging 6.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in 23 minutes per contest.
"We all feel for Varez. Everyone within our program understands how much time and hard work Varez has put in, and he has been the most improved player on our team from the end of last season," Texas head coach Rick Barnes said. "He means a lot to this program."
Texas has a plethora of serviceable guards on its roster, as Dogus Balbay, Avery Bradley and J'Covan Brown are expected to see extended minutes in Ward's absence.
